I used to hate networking. It would summon up memories of vast conferences, peering at people's badges and desperately trying to find somebody relevant to talk to. Hellish. These days, I go to a networking event every four or five weeks. It's Seed Run, and it's my favourite day of the month. You might say that's because it's your event. Not so! As everybody gets involved (in this case, running), and you share the experience with everyone, it never feels like networking. There is never much agenda to any conversation; there is lots of genuine interest and loads of people helping each other. Last week, I met Lauretta and Purdie (who, incidentally, came in as the fastest women). Thank you, Alex, for bringing them along. I ran with Mark, who shared that one of his objectives for the year is to run a 20-minute 5k. I foolishly agreed to attempt to do it with him. I caught up with Hannah, who's a regular. Her business haboo money helps people pay off their debts. I belatedly realised I have loads of relevant contacts in the credit industry. I also chatted with Lachlan. He has a fascinating AI business daily. that works with you to keep you accountable. So many interesting people and not enough time! I'd love to make it easier for people to connect after coming (I don't think the world needs another WhatsApp group). I'm hoping Luma can fix the problem by introducing 1. auto check-in by location so we know who came and 2. improving user profiles and allowing interaction. If anyone has any bright ideas, please message me! We've now fixed a date for next month, May 6th (sign-up link in the comments). Please come and say hello; at the very least, I can introduce you to someone interesting. Looking forward to running with you in May! |
