Co-Founder, The Experimentation Group

Discover what really matters to your players

Can you give a brief introduction about yourself?
My name's Tom. I'm a new Founder and new to Seed Run. Our start up is in mobile gaming/ data. I love learning about start ups so am excited to be part of this community.
What inspired you to become an entrepreneur/startup founder?
It's always been something I wanted to try. The opportunity came up with some friends last summer, so I grabbed it with both hands.
What problem does your startup aim to solve?
We want to help people build better games by understanding what their players really want.
Can you describe your startup in a single sentence?
We're three gaming veterans, who are passionate about experimentation and on a mission to improve the industry as a whole.
How did the idea for your startup come about?
By talking. We're all passionate about games and experimentation, and realised we had the opportunity to have an impact, so took it.
What's the most unique aspect of your solution or business model?
We offer our services for free! We think we'll learn faster as an industry if we share our process and learnings. If studios are happy to share details about the experiments we work on publicly, we're happy to work for free.
What’s the most challenging aspect of building your startup?
Having studios commit to the reality that if you want big results, you need to take big risks.
How have you overcome obstacles and challenges in your journey so far?
By being fluid. We're all very practically minded and being so small we can make decisions very quickly.
What's the most valuable lesson you've learned as a founder?
ChatGPT is amazing.
How do you manage work-life balance, especially with the demands of a startup?
There is no work-life balance, only life. I've chosen this path because it suits the life I want to lead, so it's all good.
What’s the next big milestone for your startup?
It's early days, our milestones are all pretty close.
What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs or startups?
Don't plan too far in the future, a lot can change quickly.
Any ideas on how we could improve Seed Run?
N/a, this will be my first one :-)
