Can you give me a brief instruction about yourself?
I’m Mateus, head of M&A and partnerships at SalaryFits which is a FinTech company based in Brazil, but with operations in Mexico and Europe and some other countries as well.
What inspired you to join a startup?
I was one of the early employees. The main thing was to be able to join a small company with the potential to grow very quickly.
Can you describe your startup in a single sentence?
We are infrastructure that connects payroll to other financial stations. We open up APIs so that products can be offered at an employee level.
How did the idea come about?
The founder was working for one of the big banks in Brazil and this was the beginning of this kind of product being offered in Brazil. He saw an opportunity for a technology company to be the middleman between the banks and payroll.
What's the most unique aspect of the solution or business model?
That we open payroll APIs which are usually not able to connect to third parties, in a very easy and simple way
What's the most challenging aspect of building the startup ?
Being able to scale in a quicker way whenever you launch new solutions. Scability is the trickiest part.
What's the most valuable lesson you've learnt being part of a startup?
That you need to persevere and that things sometimes don't happen in the way that you think they will. If you keep going, it’s very likely things are going to get better over time.
How do you manage worklife balance?
Sport is great way. Being able to exercise and blow off steamworks really well.
What's the next big milestone for your business?
Our series B, which is about to be finalised soon.
What advice would you give to an aspiring entrepreneur or someone about to join a startup?
Just go for it. It's very rewarding to be part of a fast growing company and to see a small team becoming a bigger and bigger team. That's one of the most rewarding things that I've had in my career.
